I spent two weeks in Kolkata, mostly working, but I did get out to take some pictures of some of the well-known landmarks. Victoria Memorial, dedicated to Queen Victoria, is quite nice…from the outside. Inside are a number of galleries with art and some recreations of old Kolkata villages, but it’s nothing special.
Here is another from the right side of the building. It’s quite a sight.
On the way into the grounds there was a guy entertaining the crowd with his monkeys…REAL monkeys.
The last weekend I was in Kolkata I went to Chowranghee Street (Remember ‘City of Joy’ and ’36 Chowranghee’?). It’s a simple street, but it has some historic significance and it has seen its share of movies filmed on it.
Need some meat? This place had an interesting smell and ambience to it. It’s one of the largest meat markets in the city.
